THERE IS a continually changing business environment out there, according to Bob King, director of A-Cubed Consulting, and education officer of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers.
“The impact of globalisation requires those in the shipping sector to have current and relevant knowledge, skills and competencies,” he said.
This, he told FTW, was identified by the institute in SA - and raised the need for short courses covering critical shipping areas.
“One-to-three day courses will be added to the portfolio in 2005 in marine claims, liner trades and port agency, amongst others.”
It was the recognition that not everyone has the spare time to pursue an internationally recognised, year-long certificate or diploma course in shipping by correspondence - never mind the three-year, degree level qualifying exams - that led to the latest institute initiative.
The SA branch has introduced an intensive, week-long training session at the Pumula Beach Hotel, south of Durban, on October 24-30 - a course facilitated by A-Cubed Consulting.
