UK port to double size to cope with mega-ships

The UK’s Port of Felixstowe, owned by Hong Kong-based Hutchison, intends to double its size.

Some 70 miles north of London, it intends to extend the combined lengths of Berths 8 and 9 to 920 metres, and dredge them to 16m depth.

The extension will enable the port to simultaneously berth two 21 000-TEU mega-ships.
