UAE imports lion’s share of Angolan diamonds

The United Arab Emirates imported the lion’s share (around 95%) of the diamonds mined in Angola in July, followed by Hong Kong (3%), according to a statement by the Angolan Ministry of Geology and Mines.

The statement added that over 865 000 carats of diamonds had been extracted and sold in July this year at an amount US$115 million.

This is almost 100 carats more than the previous month when 748 000 carats of diamonds were extracted and sold to the value of US$92.9 million.

These increases were due an increase in production at Catoca mine and the fact that higher quality diamonds were traded in July.
