Trucking companies joined
thousands of protesters in
Cape Town last Friday calling
for president Jacob Zuma
to step down. This after his
cabinet reshuffle that saw the
downgrading of South Africa’s
investment status to ‘junk’
by ratings agencies Fitch and
Standard & Poor’s (S&P) last
week.
City of Cape Town Traffic
spokesperson Maxime
Bezuidenhout said there had
been three sets of trucks on the
road bearing the same message:
“Zuma must go”. One set
blocked the airport approach
road on the N2 highway while
two other sets drove very slowly
on the N1.
An estimated 60 000
marchers took to the streets
in all the major cities. More
marches are planned for the
coming weeks leading up to the
motion of no confidence against
Zuma on April 18.
