Transport broker adds muscle in Johannesburg

Transport broker JVC Freight Carriers, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, has established a sales presence in Johannesburg with Desmond Naicker representing the company. “While we offer a transport service to wherever our clients need, the Durban-Johannesburg route is the busiest and we wanted to add value to our Johannesburgbased customers,” said managing director Raj Maistry. “As transport brokers we are essentially selling a service over which we have no control, so it’s been a long road towards establishing the kind of partnerships we need with the 60 transport companies we currently use as suppliers,” he told FTW. To be able to deal with all the variables that affect service delivery, JVC believes in ongoing training and communication. The company has developed a performance management system – which includes regular feedback every step of the journey – which it implements with each of its transport suppliers. “We try to bring home to our suppliers that every truck is a profit centre and operates as a business,” he said. “We believe that every truck’s performance should be evaluated on an individual basis. This provides much better insight into performance by identifying problems and highlighting successes,” he added.
