Transnet Rail Infrastructure Manager (TRIM) has issued a request for proposals (RFP) for the leasing, investment, development, operation and maintenance of 20 rail sidings across South Africa.
On Wednesday, September 9, Transnet said the RFP is part of TRIM’s ongoing efforts to unlock value from rail assets through structured private-sector participation.
The 10-year leasing and investment programme focuses on commercialising the siding assets, including land, rail infrastructure and associated buildings.
The sidings advertised in the RFP are:
- Krugersdorp
- Pyramid South
- Ngagane
- Hlobane
- Panbult
- Rietkuil
- Carolina

- Bela Bela
- Marikana (A)
- Marikana (B)
- Marikana (C)
- Bellville Autosort
- Lutzville Station
- Putsonderwater

The initiative supports South Africa’s rail reform agenda and advances its mandate to enable open access to the national rail network, TRIM said.
The programme intends to improve asset utilisation and service delivery while supporting the long-term sustainability of rail infrastructure.
The programme reflects the infrastructure manager’s commitment to transparent, market-driven access to strategic rail assets, TRIM CEO Moshe Motlohi said.
“By partnering with the private sector, we aim to improve service delivery, strengthen industry collaboration and unlock sustainable economic value across South Africa’s rail network,” Motlohi said.
Successful bidders will be required to refurbish, upgrade, maintain and operate the sidings.
RFP documents are available on the National Treasury eTender portal and Transnet’s eSupplier portal. Submissions close on November 30.
