Trade between UAE and SA on the increase

Trade between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and South Africa increased by 10.6% in 2014, reaching a total of US$2.8 billion, compared with $2.5bn in 2013.

AMEInfo, a trade news resource from the Middle East, cited a study by the UAE ministry of economy as saying that the trade balance was heavily in favour of South Africa.

The value of UAE imports from South Africa totalled $1.72bn, while UAE exports stood at U$124 million, in addition to an amount of U$87m for re-exports.

Ethylene polymers topped UAE’s exports to South Africa at U$23.5m. Other top exports of the Emirates include copper coils, large bottles, panels, plates and some electrical devices, among others.

Main imports from South Africa include gold ore, diamonds, coal, auto parts, transport vehicles, fresh or dried citrus fruits, pears, apples and other agri produce.
