TPT has much in store for its ports in the coming years. In a recent talk at the Railways and Harbours conference in Johannesburg, the parastatal said plans were in place to increase TEU capacity at all its ports significantly. At the Durban port, TPT wants to increase its capacity to 4.3 million TEUs by 2015 while the new Ngqura port is set to handle 1.1 million TEUs by 2012. Further expansion at the port could add another 1.3 million TEU capacity by 2020 and an additional 5.4 million TEUs by 2030. In Cape Town, container capacity was likely to grow to five million TEUs by 2027.
