Learnerships are a key way of improving the skills set of people choosing the freight and logistics industry as a career, says Margrit Wolff, managing director of Mercury Freight. Having recently introduced three leanerships into the company, Wolff believes training is of critical essence of the industry that continues to be hampered by major skills shortages. She said at the same time learnerships also addressed the competency issues. “Learnerships can sometimes be challenging to a business especially at the start of programmes but there is no denying the effectiveness of this handson training method.” CAPTION Interns Quraysha Narainsamy; Mishka Francis and Desiree Mohale participated in Mercury Freight’s first learnership programme.
