Thinking inside the box

One of the fastest growing markets for fruit concentrates is Africa, according to SCP’s Deon Wahl. And while the continent brings many opportunities, its lack of infrastructure makes it a logistical nightmare at times. “The delays experienced in moving a perishable into Africa have been one of the big challenges we have had to overcome as there are not always enough reefers available or plugs for reefers at some of the ports. We have therefore developed an aseptic drum that is packed inside a container which allows for the product to be kept in pristine condition in an ambient environment for months, making it viable to export to countries that have logistical challenges.” Another way of moving the product is in flexi tanks – also inside containers – allowing for large volumes to be moved at a time.
