Latest research predicts a shortage of one million skilled workers by 2020, says Tiger Recruitment managing director, Terri Smith. “With the massive number of employees retiring in the next five years it is understandable that companies will have to implement innovative ways of attracting and retaining the best and brightest individuals to join their teams,” she told FTW. With a talent war in full swing, acquiring the best candidates is a challenge in the highly competitive recruitment field, says Smith. “Out-recruit your competition is our mission statement – and that means careful candidate selection. “You need to not only ask questions in interviews but judge the candidate’s potential – and companies need to consider training if the skills are not available. “With industries like mining, telecommunications and roadfreight booming, competent staff are crucial to ensure competitive advantage.” Launched in March this year, the fledgling company has seen huge growth, says Smith, who is upbeat about the year ahead.
