The International Civil Aviation Organisation (Icao) has committed to producing a proposal to regulate global airline emissions by the end of the year. It’s a move that has garnered significant support from the Global Air Cargo Advisory Group (GACAG) which describes it as a vital step forward that must be supported by the aviation industry and international governments. GACAG has been highly critical of the EU’s controversial Emissions Trading Scheme and has consistently campaigned for multilateral efforts to develop international CO² emissions standards within Icao. This is in keeping with the recommendations of The Kyoto Protocol.
