The arrival in Southampton yesterday (July 6) of the CMA CGM GEORG FORSTER was significant for several reasons.
With her sistership the CMA CGM KERGUELEN she is the company’s largest containership and also the largest UK flag vessel sailing the seas.
She has capacity for 18 000 TEUs – and if all containers were placed together they would equal the distance between London and Southampton. The vessel is wider than an Olympic pool, and her thrust is the equivalent o 10 Airbus A380s.
She has the capacity to transport almost 200 000 tons of goods between European, Middle East and Asian markets.
