Delays at border posts
between South Africa and
Botswana are likely to
decrease once the country’s
new custom system achieves
greater stability.
According to Ridwaan
Mohammed, general manager
of Advanced Clearing
Solutions, they are currently
looking at integrating into
Botswana’s new customs
processing system, the SEW
(Single Electronic Window).
“This will allow for more
efficient customs processing
on both sides of the border
leading to a speedy clearance
process and avoiding
unnecessary delays,” he
told FTW. “Our ability to
integrate with the Botswana
SEW would also ensure
accurate data on both sides of
the border – and with ACS’s
stringent validation system,
this would add value to both
parties.”
He said delays were
probably the biggest challenge
when any of South Africa’s
neighbouring countries
decided to implement
new customs operating
systems. “Although there
are temporary teething
issues, it is a step forward in
technology for the country
and we believe a step forward
in technology is a leap ahead
for us at ACS.
He said the integration
capabilities within the ACS
system into any software
solution was not complex
thanks to the system
architecture introduced in
2005 and they were hoping
to see integration with
Botswana soon.
“Botswana is an important
market for South Africa and
will always offer opportunity.
The question is how fast and
efficiently can this cargo
be moved. We believe the
efficiency of it all lies in the
ACS software solutions,” he
said.
