A shipping blog that was launched in October 2008 on the internet by reader Hariesh Manaadiar has met with an exceptional response – achieving about 5 300 hits to date, he told FTW. The blog is titled “Shipping in South Africa” and the link is http://shippinginsouthafrica. wordpress.com “I’ve been working in SA for the past eight years, having worked in other countries and in shipping for over 19 years,” he said. “One of the things I’ve noticed is the shortage of practical/day-to-day skills/ knowledge in this country’s shipping industry.” To help overcome this, Manaadiar – in his personal capacity – launched the shipping blog, aimed at newcomers to the industry, and for those already in the industry but looking to advance their knowledge base. His first article covered a “Who’s Who” of authorities/ bodies in SA shipping, followed by other relevant blogs. “I also pose shipping-related questions on a weekly basis,” said Manaadiar. “These are intended for people to test their own knowledge of shipping and have an understanding of it. I would encourage people to subscribe to the blog to get regular updates and also actively participate with question/answers and healthy debates relating to shipping.”
