Senior staff changes a worry

A number of senior managers at Richards Bay have left Portnet since the 1995 client conference, and the effect must be worrying to Portnet itself as they drew attention to it themselves during the recent client conference.

It became obvious during the various presentations that Portnet now has a surfeit of temporary appointees, and among these are included the managers for the Dry Bulk Terminal, the Bulk Metal Terminal and the Combi Terminal, the three key areas.

During the client conference port manager Glen Martin even thought it necessary to discuss the various changes, saying that a number of senior personnel had left the company to Ôgo into business for themselves' but that permanent appointments could be expected during early 1997.

With Portnet head office itself having a chief executive officer carrying an Ôacting' tag attached to his title, it appears this has now become the norm. One of the general conversation topics among clients attending the conference was what this is doing for staff morale - left unsaid was the question of customer confidence.
