Zimbabwe shippers - take note!

SHIPPERS ARE becoming a bit lazy in their container labelling for unit train transport to Zimbabwe.

CX has noted numerous instances of incorrect conveyance procedures.

The primary one of these is that all ISO (International Standards organisation) containers - packed or empty - must be labelled, rated and conveyed via the Gauteng-Zimbabwe border at Beit Bridge.

After that, the boxes must be labelled to the appropriate rail depot - Dabcon in Gwelo; Locon in Harare or Condep in Bulawayo.

Railage should still, however, be maintained to the final destination - if it is anywhere else in Zimbabwe. The container number; INTAC document number; consignee; and the final destination must be endorsed on the reverse side of the wagon label.

The rail wagons must be released on the Service Management Computer System at each depot, along with the correct accounting number for each.

CX also warns that 3-metre, 6-m and 12-m containers must be loaded on SH and SM container rail wagons of Spoornet, or the PNN-type of Zimbabwe Railways (NRZ) - when available.

Their clients are advised that the necessary amendments will be effected to the CX Conditions of Carriage.
