The development of an
Industrial Development Zone
(IDZ) in Saldanha Bay – which
is fast gaining traction – is a
game changer for the province,
in the view of minister of
economic opportunity, Alan
Winde.
Addressing the Exporters
Club Western Cape recently,
Winde said the project was
developing well with most
of the infrastructure such as
roads, electricity and water in
place.
“The fence is going up and
the bridge linking the IDZ to
the actual port in Saldanha has
now been completed. The 35
companies that have signed on
will very soon be able to start
building their factories and
facilities in the IDZ,” he said.
According to Winde the
province has identified
Saldanha Bay as part of its
economic growth strategy
which focuses on the oil
and gas industry. “Oil and
gas – along with tourism
and agriculture and agri
processing – are the focus of
Project Khulisa, an isiXhosa
word that means enabling
growth,” said Winde. “These
are the sectors that we believe
hold the most potential for
this province to grow its
economy.”
With the infrastructure in
place the entire project was
now more tangible than ever
before, he said.
