A young Safmarine marketing assistant, Lucas Haluodi from the shipping line's Durban office is the recipient of
an award from the Norwegian Shipping Academy enabling him to undertake a Professional Shipping Course in Oslo, Norway.
The programme, which is supported by the Norwegian Development Aid Agency (NORAD) commences this month and runs for a period of seven months.
Haluodi will study shipping and its environment, embracing economics, maritime law and technical; shipping practices including terminal operations, insurance and accounting, and shipping management, which covers corporate strategy and planning, asset management and new business development. Other specialist options are also available.
The fellowship programme targets personnel employed or formally linked to public institutions, non-government institutions, private sector enterprises and those who will benefit from further education. This is in
order to strengthen the performance of their respective institutions, a Safmarine spokesman told FTW. He added that Haluodi had Safmarine's full support and the company was looking forward to his return with the Post Graduate International Diploma in Professional Shipping.
