Project specialist with strong West Africa links

There is a primary factor in
achieving a reputation as a
dedicated, specialised project
logistics management company,
according to Richard Quinton,
business development executive of
Multilog.
“That is to co-ordinate global,
dimensional heavy-lift shipments
via air, land and sea – including the
chartering of vessels, aircraft and
specialised land transportation.”
He told FTW that this had led to
the company attacking the African
market, and linking it up with a
worldwide network.
“Utilising our own offices in West
Africa and with the support of our
project associates, globally,” Quinton
said, “we have been able to convert
previously one-sided export mindsets
into both import and export mindsets.
“In addition, we have successfully
managed to maintain a high level of
success in executing our projects ontime
and within budget.”
Quinton felt that this had succeeded
in growing Africa’s potential as a
whole, and opening physical and
mental ‘borders’ for the inevitable
growth that came from creating
Multilog clients’ footprints within SA,
throughout Africa and the world.
“From understanding our partners’
strengths, and managing (third-party
logistics) 3PL service providers,” he
said, “we co-ordinate every detail of
moving project cargo – from planning
discharge and vehicle requirements,
to breaking-strength of lifting gear, to
road surface conditions during ‘rainy’
seasons.”
He also felt that there was an added
benefit of having its own offices in
West Africa.
“It has had a tremendous impact on
how we do things – from establishing
a common systems platform
(implementation of the German SAP
system at all regional offices) to daily/
monthly reporting,” Quinton said.
While Multilog can tackle the
provision of project logistics
solutions to any industrial category,
it has built up a specialisation in
the mining, electrical reticulation,
water purification and construction
industries.
