The standards applicable as an entry ticket to
the fuel and chemicals industries will soon be
pre-requisites in many other industries, in the
view of Cargo Carriers marketing director
Andre van Vuuren.
“Which is why the company adopted a
holistic philosophy to SHEQ across all of
our business units some time ago,” says Van
Vuuren, “and this approach has already paid
dividends in terms of winning new business.”
Cargo Carriers was recently awarded two
major contracts by gas and welding products
supplier Afrox, for the distribution of oxygen
and nitrogen produced at Afrox’s Witbank
branch, and CO² from the Naledi branch in
Sasolburg.
“It was the company’s commitment to
Afrox’s Safety, Health, Environment and
Quality (SHEQ) policy that clinched two
out of the four contracts,” says Van Vuuren,
“as well as our ability to communicate
seamlessly with the Afrox scheduling centre.
“We report to the scheduling centre
every three hours, indicating exactly where
our trucks and their cargo is located. This
is done on a 24/7 basis and allows Afrox
to accurately schedule their distribution
timetable and manage their customer
relationships more precisely,” he said.
