Arnold Garber . . . portable generators help the clients. FREQUENT POWER shortages in the Gauteng area have encouraged Compu-Clearing to purchase two 17.5kva generators, which will be mounted on trailers. “We have a very powerful, automatic start-up generator on our premises,” says Arnold Garber. “But for all our customers who are connected to us that does not help them when the power failure is on their side. On the other hand, it is not economically justified for our customers to invest in these expensive gadgets, even though the power outages appear to have increased. They still do not happen all that frequently. “However, when they do happen it is a problem. We have ordered two generators which are mounted on trailers and can be deployed rapidly at our Gauteng office. “We own and run seven bakkies to replace hardware, etc. We have fitted tow hitches to two of the bakkies and the generators are ready to be deployed any time. If one of our customers has a power failure that appears to be more than just momentary, we can be at his premises within half an hour with a generator that can power almost a whole building. “Our customers will have to install the necessary connections if they want to use their existing electrical infrastructure. For those that do not have the right connections, we can always lay temporary cables to their computer rooms, etc. We have ordered two of these gadgets and if it should happen that more than two of our customers have a long power failure simultaneously, then it will be just a question of first come first served. “This is not a service from which we intend making money, but rather yet another way to serve our customers. There will be times that our customers will be powered by Compu-Clearing, literally.”
