Ray Smuts EFFECTING FURTHER cost efficiencies lies at the heart of a major new restructuring of senior management at MOL (Mitsui OSK Lines SA). Managing director, Dave Giraudeau, says of the new appointments: “They will help us to get a handle on costs, achieve a better turn time on our containers and become more focused in terms of our service delivery.” Two new posts have been created; general manager for trade division headed by Chris Naidoo and general manager for regional operations headed by Nic Robbins. Naidoo will be charged with responsibility for return on assets, looking after such functions as maximising vessel space, turnaround and evacuation of containers, marketing and pricing, while Robbins is in control of the regions and sub-agents including sales, commercial activities, quality control and business processes. Earlier this year in an endeavour to strengthen its stake in the automotive industry, MOL appointed former Bidvest Group logistics specialist, Morgan Munsamy, to look after its logistics requirements with special focus on the auto industry. He is based in Johannesburg.
