Members of a specialised police task force seized R225 000 worth of petroleum oil products and arrested four suspects after swooping on a Johannesburg property last week.
SAPS spokesperson for Gauteng, Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk, said police had raided the premises on Tuesday.
“Police led an integrated takedown operation in Centurion and seized a consignment of counterfeit petroleum oil products with an estimated value of R225 000. Four Zimbabwean nationals were arrested,” Van Wyk said.
According to a preliminary report, a team that comprised members of the National Counterfeit Unit and Commercial Crimes Investigations, in collaboration with brand protectors, operationalised information that led to the raid.
“The team obtained a search and seizure warrant and proceeded to the identified address in Monavoni, a suburb on the outskirts of Centurion, Gauteng,” Van Wyk said.
“This resulted in the seizure of over 3 000 litres of petroleum oil imitating well-known brands.”
The Department of Home Affairs will verify the residency status of the arrested foreign nationals.
The suspects are facing charges related to the contravention of the Counterfeit Goods Act 37 of 1997.
