Partnerships crucial to moving forward

Given the present difficult
economic environment in
South Africa more and more
transport companies and
suppliers are getting back to basics.
According to Manny Ribeiro of MBS
Carriers, this includes reverting back to
dependable strategies.
“Economically, the outlook for
the next 12 months
looks tough,” he said.
“During these difficult
economic cycles
companies naturally
look more closely at
their own businesses
to remain competitive.
Reducing overheads
and infrastructural
costs and optimising
key areas in your
business become
vital. We try to create
more efficient ways of
running our business
without compromising service delivery
to our customers.”
Many companies are also seeking
new business within unfamiliar
markets, while partnerships are
becoming a crucial component for
moving forward.
In this regard, said Ribeiro,
MBS Carriers has associated itself
with the Truck Centre Group of
companies – service providers to the
transport and logistics industry.
Explains Craig Jordan, managing
director of Truck Centre Group:
“Our product lines include Iveco
commercial vehicles and Astra heavy
duty trucks. Our group provides
new and used equipment, service
and technical support, parts and
consumable support and managed
maintenance for truck and ancillary
equipment. In collaboration with our
customers, competitive,
tailor-made solutions
are offered for all
commercial applications
that best suit their
particular business or
industry.”
MBS Carriers, which
owns one of the largest
Iveco fleets, consisting
of over 400 brand new
cross-border vehicles,
has embarked on a full
maintenance leasing
(FML) agreement
with Truck Centre in
all aspects of maintenance in South
Africa, Zambia and the Congo.
In a clear demonstration of its
commitment to the South African
market, Iveco has opened a local
assembly plant in Rosslyn, Pretoria.
This R700-million rand investment
includes new Iveco commercial vehicle
assembly and a bus manufacturing
division that will benefit the local truck
and automotive industry significantly.
