International Liner Agencies
(ILA), which was acquired
by international group
Vanguard Logistics Services
in January this year, has
opened its first Eastern Cape
office in the CHC warehouse
facility in Algoa Park, Port
Elizabeth.
Vanguard is the NVOCC
with the largest owned
network of offices around
the world, according to
Rod Taylor, founder and
managing director of ILA.
CHC, which will be
handling consolidation,
destuffing and distribution,
has “had a presence” in
Port Elizabeth since 2011,
according to director Simon
Chalker.
The 2 000-sqm Port
Elizabeth warehouse is fully
geared for high-value cargo
and can handle all types of
freight, including hazardous
cargo. It also has an enclosed
under-cover cross-docking
facility.
“We believe we are
bringing in a new end-to-end
product which provides our
clients in the Eastern Cape
and the rest of the country
with access to another two
ports,” says Taylor.
Roadfreight rates
between Port Elizabeth
and Gauteng are similar
to those between Gauteng
and Durban, making the
ports of Ngqura and Port
Elizabeth viable alternatives
to Durban and Cape Town.
The new Port Elizabeth
operation will be handling
direct imports from Europe,
Asia and the United States.
“At this point exports will
be routed through Durban
and Cape Town, however we
are on the verge of running
our first outbound boxes
from Port Elizabeth,” he
says.
Freight forwarders and
their clients benefit from
the Vanguard systems,
which enable freight to be
tracked globally and provide
a number of other valueadded
services, says Taylor.
“We can expand the reach
of smaller forwarders and
their clients by giving them
access to new markets
across the global Vanguard
network of over 120 offices
in 100 countries.”
