New Turkish terminal expects first vessels in early 2016

APM Terminals Izmir has selected ZPMC as the provider of cranes at the Izmir terminal.

APM Terminals’ new 1.3 million TEU deep-water Izmir facility on Turkey’s Aegean coast is set for a March 2016 opening, according to a statement by the Dutch terminal operator.

The terminal has just take delivery of  five rubber-tyre gantry cranes (RTGs) and two ship-to-shore (STS) gantry cranes, with one more STS crane and five additional RTGs scheduled to arrive in December, bringing the container handling equipment complement to three STS cranes and 10 RTGs.

Operating under a 28-year concession agreement with Turkish petrochemical conglomerate Petkim, the APM Terminals Izmir facility will have 700 metres of quay and a 16-metre depth during its first phase of development, with the ability to expand annual throughput capacity to 4 million TEUs annually.

Following implementation and testing of the cranes and other container handling equipment, APM Terminals Izmir expects to receive its first vessel call in March 2016.
