New Swazi airport runs out of funds

The Swaziland government has run out of money to complete a controversial new international airport. Prime Minister Sibusiso Dlamini told a meeting of newspaper editors recently that the SA construction firm Stefanutti & Bressan was owed R145m and its local partner R64m. With no money to pay them all work has stopped at the Sikhupe hamlet east of Manzini. Government has repeatedly pushed back the facility’s opening date but for the first time the head of government said he had no idea when the airport would be ready.
