The City of Cape Town has entered into a partnership with GreenCape and the Atlantis Special Economic Zone (SEZ) as part of a bigger strategy to promote Cape Town as a green tech investment and manufacturing hub.
According to James Vos, the city’s mayoral committee member for economic opportunities and asset management, green energy provision opportunities hold the key to the economic growth of Cape Town.
He said having attended a recent conference focused on wind energy generation, valuable global market insights had been gained that would assist the city in its bid to establish and grow a green technology manufacturing hub, while it also provided the opportunity to understand the global market and green technology trends better.
Cape Town already has a dedicated Special Economic Zone for GreenTech manufacturing in Atlantis which has positioned itself to optimally tap into green technology market opportunities around the world.
“Special Economic Zones are vital tools to use in driving industrial and economic development,” said Vos.
The Atlantis SEZ has secured approximately R700 million worth of investment already.
“With approximately 93ha of development-ready SEZ land available, this is a significant opportunity for investors to make use of,” said Vos.
