The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) is reported to be convinced that the renewed cargo tracking note (CTN) will curtail fraud involving ships and shippers in cargo declaration.
Among the advantages of CTN are that it will check a lot of fraudulent practices involving importers and indeed shipping companies who are involved in under-declaration and outright concealment.
In the next few months, this advanced cargo information system will be introduced for the second time, after it was first introduced in 2009, under the management of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).
But it was then dropped as stakeholders slammed the cost of that CTN.
But, with input from the NSC and the ports regulator, the management of the scheme are sure it will be far better than the previous one.
