New name, same service

A change of name, but no
change to the service.
That’s the essence
of the renaming of
Galborg, which on July
1 will be rebranded to
become MACS Maritime
Carrier Shipping Pte
of Singapore.“We will
continue to run our multipurpose
liner service
between North America
and southern Africa,
known as GAL (Gulf Africa
Line), and apart from
the name change it will
be business as usual,” a
spokesman told FTW.
“Galborg is fully owned
through MACS' holding
company, and is its
foothold in Singapore.
“The practical
importance of changing
the name became apparent
when we launched our
North Atlantic service
from Houston to northern
Europe where the Houston
office had an issue with
two separate brands," the
spokesman said. “The new
name ref lects our desire
to achieve a higher level
of integration in order to
better serve our clients.”
It was stressed that this
would be purely a change of
name and that the company
would honour all existing
contracts and agreements.
“It’s important to note
that the USA-SA service is
still a separate company in
Singapore,” he added.
