New digital weighbridge inaugurated in Walvis Bay

A new digital weighbridge, intended to enhance cargo verification, operational efficiency and expanded compliance, has been commissioned by diversified freight services provider, Rennies Consolidated, at the Port of Walvis Bay.

Located at the former container depot on Hanna Mupetami Road, the weighbridge is part of the company’s long-term vision, says general manager, Samuel Shoopala.

“This is about improving service delivery, accuracy and aligning with transport regulations. It’s a strategic step in our infrastructure and innovation journey.”

The depot itself is close to key transport routes and logistics hubs and allows for smooth integration into existing operations as well as improving accessibility for both clients and partners.

A statement released in conjunction with the facility’s inauguration says the technology is what sets the weighbridge apart.

“Equipped with digital sensors and real-time data capture, the systems automate weighing and reporting, reducing manual tasks while improving safety and reliability,” the statement says.

Shoopala adds that it reduces queuing, increases throughput and cuts down on manual intervention.

“We’ve already seen improvements, including managing bulk-to-breakbulk operations with 24 fewer personnel, which is a significant cost benefit.”

The statement says: “Beyond cost savings, the weighbridges improve safety for drivers and staff, help prevent overloading, and support accurate billing and planning. These benefits extend directly to clients, who gain from faster processing and greater transparency. In a broader sense this investment feeds into the regional logistics requirements. With enhanced throughput and data reliability, the weighbridges support smoother cargo movement and improved coordination among stakeholders.”

Shoopala says it will help build a more competitive, efficient logistics sector in the region.

The project was led by the operations team at Rennies, working closely with strategic partners.
