The transportation of dangerous and hazardous goods came under the spotlight at the third Responsible Care workshop organised by the Chemical and Allies Industries’ Association (CAIA) in Johannesburg last week. CAIA’s Responsible Care manager Louise Lindeque told FTW: “Preventing exposure to hazardous chemicals, ensuring the safe transportation of dangerous goods and advising on appropriate occupational health and safety measures to protect workers are a few examples of Responsible Care’s contribution to helping its member companies continuously improve their health, safety and environmental (SHE) performance.” She said in an effort to motivate hauliers the organisation is set to institute an award for hauliers in 2011. “The criteria for entrants will be made available towards the end of the year,” she said.
New award will recognise compliant dangerous goods hauliers
