THE NANTAI Line service to the Far East is to be temporarily suspended until the line settles disputes surrounding the two ships arrested in Durban and Cape Town recently, according to SA owner's representative, David Yang.
How can we run a liner service when there's a continuing dispute with the owner? he asked. We are suspending the service for a month or two till we sort out the dispute.
Nantai is determined to carry the cargoes already on the two ships to their Far East destination, according to Yang. We will sort out the problem for the client, he told FTW. We need to carry his cargo.
The Durban ship was due to carry on to the Far East.
Another vessel was due in SA at the end of June (last Wednesday), and Yang told FTW that this could enter into Nantai's plans to move the cargoes.
While Yang accedes that the Durban case looks like drawing out, the Cape Town issue he expects to be settled quickly. That one should be resolved very soon, he said.
He also emphasised that Nantai intended to honour all its debts.
