System is fully operational in SA
MOBILE PHONES can now be used to locate shipments consigned on Air France aircraft at any stage of their journey. The airline last month introduced worldwide the new Wireless Access Protocol (WAP) system to enable customers to monitor freight movements.
Working in collaboration with Traxon, the IT communication network, Air France Cargo customers simply have to connect to the internet site (www.traxon.com) select the letters AFR and enter the eight-digit code from their air waybill to locate their shipment.
It has to be done using WAP system phones, but it certainly makes the task easy, says Michael Stolz at Air France Cargo's Johannesburg International Airport base.
We have the system operating fully here, although at this stage we have merely advised our regular clients of it. It is something we will be marketing later after we have seen how successfully it operates.
The airline is also breaking new ground in the monitoring of door-to-door shipments through its new Trucking Information Update Systems (TIS), which enable staff, wherever they are, to contact customers and inform them at what time their shipment will arrive.
The Air France Cargo site (www.afcargo.com) is now providing virtual tours of the airline's two hubs at Roissy, Paris
