Six suspects, including an Ekurhuleni Metro police officer, will appear in the Benoni Magistrates Court today (Monday) following their arrest over the weekend for an alleged truck hijacking in Mpumalanga.
According to police spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini, cited in various news reports, the six were arrested when a shoot-out occurred between police officers and the suspects. The police had been following the vehicle which had reportedly been hijacked in Mpumalanga
According to Dlamini, the South African Police Service (SAPS) managed to recover the truck – which was reportedly abandoned in Kempton Park – carrying valuables such as jewellery and mobile phones. The load was recovered as well, along with five fire-arms.
