Messina Line Mozambique has

expanded its footprint by

opening sub-agents in Beira and

Swaziland, according to Captain Jai

Misra, director general of Messina

Line in Mozambique.

Misra is cautiously optimistic

about economic prospects in the

north of the country.

“The recent signing of a peace

accord between the government

and Renamo is being perceived as a

positive sign.

“In addition, finalisation of the

ENI Gas field has also ignited

a glimmer of hope. Signing of

contracts has commenced.

“The other gas concession with

Anadarko and partners is also very

close to conclusion.

“When the projects reach

implementation stage there will

be significant growth in volumes

through Nacala and to some extent

Pemba.

“Personally I do not foresee this

starting before the middle of next

year,” he says.
