Uncertainty continues to surround the loss of containers from the mega-ship APL Vanda earlier this month.
Casualty management firm WK Webster reported yesterday that the 17 292-TEU capacity ship had lost an unknown number of containers overboard on or about July 3 and it was working to verify the severity of the incident.
The incident reportedly occurred while the vessel was navigating off Djibouti on July 3 and later moved to Djibouti anchorage on July 4 for inspection. It currently remains there.
According to the casualty management company, Recovery issues may arise as a result of the incident in respect of the loss of containers overboard and physical damage to cargo stowed with regard to other containers that may have sustained damage but which remain on board the vessel.
A company statement reveals that CMA CGM intends to omit the vessel's scheduled call at Southampton and instead tranship cargo destined for Southampton at Tanger- Mediterranean Port for on-carriage by the next available vessel.
WK Webster says any amendment to the vessel's schedule as a result of the incident may result in claims for delay and deterioration of temperature-sensitive and time-sensitive cargo.
The company has recommended that affected shippers contact them if they are concerned with any cargo on board the vessel so that they can immediately start taking steps to protect their interests.
