T here are plans to add more warehousing capacity to the Matola Cargo Terminal (MCT), according to Sean Gent, managing director of the terminal.

Gent has headed up the terminal since October 2017, providing storage and handling of fast-moving consumer goods for importers and the larger retail chains that have moved into Mozambique. Its existing warehouse complex has been upgraded and modernised to handle refrigerated as well as dry cargo.

There are also facilities for the storage and handling of specialised abnormal project cargo. The terminal is also ready to handle exports of citrus again as in previous years when shipping lines specialised in handling refrigerated cargo used to call at the port of Maputo.

Gent believes that ongoing upgrades to the Mozambique ports and investment in logistics infrastructure will increase Mozambique’s potential as a key trading hub for its neighbours.
