Internet-based system updated daily A NEW marine farefinder database designed to reduce travel costs for marine crew has just been launched in South Africa. Available through Sandton-based InterArgo Travel, the user-friendly system can be accessed via the internet and is updated daily. InterArgo is the world's largest marine group and specialises in the movement of ship's crew. It's the first specialist marine travel company in South Africa and with 26 offices worldwide is responsible for the movement of some 650 000 crew members. Using its global buying power, InterArgo has been able to secure a wide range of discounted fares. Using the supplied software, the user merely enters the route required, and he is provided with a list of the best available rates. In addition the system offers a range of useful ancillary information like visa requirements. "There has always been a seaman's fare which required a different form of reservation," says InterArgo general manager Pam Kitching. "But we are the first agency in South Africa to specialise in marine fares." Future plans include the opening of a Durban office. Financial manager of Tower Bureau De Change, George Wong, who will act as a consultant for the new division, believes that the shipping lines stand to make significant savings thanks to the launch of the scheme. "With the large number of crew changes in South Africa, and bearing in mind that all costs are paid by the overseas principal, the low rand and consequent lower air fares will save companies a fortune." Cape Town-based business development manager Costa Ayiotis will be responsible for promoting the marine product nationally.
