Line makes West Africa appointment

Shanon Campbel, currently commercial manager for Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean islands, has just been appointed to handle Zim Line’s freight and commercial management in West Africa. Campbell has served a jack-of-all-trades apprenticeship in the ships agency industry. “I’ve worked at every single desk in a ship's agency, including sales,” she told FTW. And she has travelled a fruitful career path in SA. Born in King Wlliam’s Town, Campbell grew up in the Ciskei before attending high school in East London, and Port Elizabeth tech as it was then. From there she moved to Johannesburg and spent two years travelling around SA. “I then landed up in Durban by choice,” she said. In 1987 she joined Union Marine, moving to Grindrod Shipping and later Rennies Ships Agency, where she stayed until joining Polaris in 2006. Although based in Durban, she was seconded to Cape Town until January last year, when she returned to her chosen home town. She attributes her success to hard work, ambition and a perfectionist drive to always do better.
