Truck ban still on the

table

Proposed regulations

banning trucks over 9 tons

from all public roads during

rush hour are still just that

– proposals, according to

the country’s top transport

officials.

Solas regulation

should have ‘minimal

impact’

There should be minimal

impact on transporter

operations when the new

Safety of Life at Sea (Solas)

verified gross mass (VGM)

regulation kicks in on

July 1 this year, says Kevin

Martin, MD of Freightliner

Transport and ex-chairman

of the Durban Harbour

Carriers’ Association

(DHCA).

Legal advice ahead of

Solas deadline

As the deadline for the

implementation of the

Solas VGM regulation

closes in, Peter Lamb,

senior associate at

Norton Rose Fulbright

SA, provides some handy

pointers ahead of the July 1

implementation date.

TFR’s manganese

volumes break records

A record volume of 1.053

million tonnes of manganese

was transported by rail

during the month of May.

Why carriers lose their

customers

Price, risk management and

loss of trust are the primary

catalysts for calling time on

relationships with container

shipping lines, according

to Xeneta, the Oslo-based

benchmarking and market

intelligence platform for

containerised ocean freight.

Drop in fruit exports

to Russia

South African fruit exports

to Russia decreased by 2%

last season – and with only

20% of the crop harvested

to date, it is too early to

tell if there will be an

improvement this season

(May to September).
