Largest single order for export containers

THE CONTAINER suppliers and converters, Container World (CW), has just won SA's largest single export order for customised containers. The R10-million deal is for 143 converted units - destined for the new oil pipeline construction scheme in Cameroon. The project - a joint-venture between the French Spie-Capag group and Willbros of the US - is a 1 100 kilometre pipeline extending from Doba (near Moudou) in neighbouring Chad to the tanker port of Kriby on the Atlantic seaboard of Cameroon. "This massive project," said CW's executive director Peter West, "is being constructed by an army of workers, who must follow the pipeline as it wends its way across the two countries. "For this, we had to supply converted containers which supply this workforce with what is effectively a mobile town." The 85 six-metre and 58 twelve-metre conversions, he added, include ablutions; kitchens; accommodation units; bakeries; infirmaries; offices; storage units; freezers and chillers.
