Kopfontein Port of Entry resumes operations

The Border Management Authority (BMA) announced on Monday that operations at the Kopfontein Port of Entry between South Africa and Botswana had resumed following a temporary suspension caused by infrastructure challenges.

This comes after operations were suspended on Saturday due to “spillage” near the border.

According to the BMA, the temporary suspension was necessitated by a spillage that affected the residential area adjacent to the port of entry, creating operational challenges that required intervention in consultation with the relevant Botswana authorities.

“Following engagements and the necessary interventions to address the challenges, the BMA confirms that the port of entry has resumed operations,” the authority said.

The BMA did not indicate the nature of the spillage.

“Travellers and members of the trading community are advised that normal processing activities have resumed from 06h00 today and the port will close at midnight daily. The BMA will continue to work closely with its Botswana counterparts and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the smooth facilitation of legitimate movement of people and goods across the border,” it said.
