Joy Orlek ISRAEL’S PORT strike has ended. The National Labour Court last Friday issued a temporary injunction ordering striking port labourers to return to work, while directing the Israeli government to freeze all pending legislation surrounding the Shipping and Ports Authority Bill. The Bill allows for the creation of a new authority that would oversee the entire shipping sector, which includes the ports of Eilat, Ashdod and Haifa. The injunction mandates the government and workers to hold negotiations during a four week period and report results to the president of Israel’s National Labour Court. Israel’s transport minister had announced contingency plans to ship goods via the ports of Aqaba and Port Said for the duration of the strike.
