Instant access to container moves

Technology allows smaller companies to compete in a marketplace previously dominated by larger players as they can now offer services just as efficiently as the speed of communication increases and the cost of technology decreases. This is one of the biggest opportunities offered by technology within the freight sector, says Macro 2000 MD Anthea van Breemen. “Technology is moving the industry towards a wireless, paperless environment that has the benefits of improved customer service. Information is shared more quickly and is available to the customer almost as soon as the transaction takes place,” she told FTW. Van Breemen says that this is illustrated in how the shipping lines have made electronic communication available and easy to interface with them, making the swapping of information fast and accurate. Furthermore, says Van Breemen, devices are becoming smarter every day, allowing the industry to do more wirelessly. Taking advantage of ongoing opportunities offered by evolving technology, Macro 2000 has launched a system interface to major shipping companies that is installed and working at container terminals running the company’s Container Management Software. “This new interface means that shipping companies are immediately informed of all container movements in and out of the terminal, as well as container on hand reporting,” she said.
