Innovative tools revolutionise cold chain efficiency

In today's interconnected world, where fresh produce, pharmaceuticals, and other perishable goods are transported across continents, the efficient management of the cold chain has become paramount. Thanks to rapid advancements in technology, the integration of various innovative tools and systems has revolutionised the cold chain industry, ensuring the quality, safety and efficiency of temperature-sensitive products throughout their journey.According to Lucien Jansen, CEO of the Perishable Products Export Control Board (PPECB), the use of technology in the cold chain has had a profound impact on improving operations and mitigating risks associated with the transport of perishable goods.Jansen shares some insights on some of the technologies that can be used in the export value chain that starts at cold stores and continues in containers and in transit.Temperature and relative humidity monitoring – optimum temperature and relative humidity maintenance are important factors in managing the quality of perishable products. Automated cold room racking systems help to overcome breaking of the cold chain.Use of airf low kits in containers.Quality prediction models.Efficient GPS tracking and tracing.
