For the first time in years, recruitment specialists are seeing major shifts in the freight industry’s senior management as more top managers leave their companies to join competitors “It’s a trend worth watching as this will inevitably impact on the other levels within the company,” Jackie Roberts and Natalie Barrass, owners of Bertlie Recruitment told FTW. With skills shortages remaining one of the biggest challenges in the freight industry, sourcing strong and experienced sales people remains a massive challenge nationally, said Roberts. “Skills training should therefore remain a focus of companies.” Thanks to retrenchments by shipping lines and ships’ agents over the past 12 months, recruitment has been affected, said Barrass. “All of this has had an unsettling effect on recruitment due to budget cuts while salary expectations of would-be employees have remained high,” said Barrass.
