HELLMANN WORLDWIDE Logistics has opened an office and warehouse in Pretoria as well as offices in East London and Messina.
The Pretoria office with its 1200 sq m bonded store and warehouse is the first major freight service centre to be opened in the city in recent years, concentrating on sea freight and the company's Hot Express services. Top target markets are the motor industry and component manufacturers.
There is also a rapidly developing general engineering sector stretching across from Brits in the west to Bronkhorstspruit to the east of the city which is providing opportunities for general cargo exports, says branch manager Leon Bukes.
Apart from developing the export sector, Bukes also has plans for the expansion of an import division, and is looking into the possibility of establishing a container depot.
Bukes has a strong background in the motor industry, having served it for 15 years in imports and exports, front sales, stores purchasing and production planning. He has also had five years of finance banking experience and recently completed Unisa's international freight management course.
This office serves what I term northern Gauteng which has vast opportunities, he says. But I foresee huge opportunities for the motor industry with the developments taking place in the harbour at East London, and we will be working very closely with the new Hellmann office down there.
