Growth in global air freight demand and capacity

All regions, except Latin America, reported year-on-year double-digit growth in demand in May 2017.

Global air freight demand and capacity increased in May according to data released this week by the International Air Transport Association (Iata).

While air freight demand grew significantly by 12.7% – more than three times higher than the five-year average growth rate of 3.8% – freight capacity grew moderately by 5.2% when compared to the same period in 2016.

“May was another good month for air cargo,” said Iata director general and CEO, Alexandre de Juniac. “Demand growth accelerated, bolstered by strong export orders and that outpaced capacity growth which should be positive for yields.”
